I don’t know a lot about my brother Matthew. Here are some things I do know:
Matthew rented the movie Beethoven to bond with me when I was little. I never saw the end because I started crying so hard that I had to leave the room.
Matthew bought me a pair of diamond earrings for Christmas when I was 12. My reaction was “They are so small!” I still really regret that.
Matthew is not the favorite child. Neither am I.
Matthew is one of the most intense people.
Matthew is a fantastic cook- especially Italian.
Matthew lied about his age so he could start his career as a firefighter at 17. He has been a Hotshot in the forest service, an engineer, and captain. He has literally saved more lives than I can count.
Matthew didn’t really get the point of me until his daughter was born when I was 15.
He had a huge party for his 40th birthday where multiple people upon meeting me said “I had no idea Matthew had a sister!”
Matthew bought me my first iPhone.
He took me to see David Sedaris. Matthew loves David Sedaris.
Matthew is clean, neat, detail-oriented, hard-working, and ambitious. All qualities I wish that I had.
Matthew doesn’t know how often I think about him.
Matthew will probably die of alcoholism this year.
